Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a total lockdown for 21 days across the nation amid coronavirus fears while also stressing on the need for social distancing. Soon after India was announced under lockdown, famous personalities from Bollywood, Television, and sports took to social media to appreciate PM Modi’s move.
Couple Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma requested citizens to stay at home during the national full 21-day lockdown, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Welcoming the move, Kohli had requested countrymen to “stay at home” for the next 21 days as “social distancing is the only cure” available with us which can stop novel coronavirus from spreading.
“These are testing times, and we need to wake up to the seriousness of this situation. Please let us all follow what’s been told to us and stand united, please. It’s a plea to everyone, Kohli captioned the 51-second-long video on Twitter in which both the Indian skipper and Anushka can be seen urging people to remain indoors and follow social distancing.
During the video, the couple sent out a plea urging many to abide by the restraints imposed in place by the government and the World Health Organization.
With many not taking the situation with appropriate seriousness, celebrities and other prominent figures have stepped up to play their part as influencers. Joining their ranks is Virat and Anushka who recently requested all citizens to follow the guidelines enforced by the government, so the virus can effectively be eradicated.
Kohli and actress Sharma have a combined 55 million followers on Twitter and posted their joint message on the platform.
“These are testing times, and we need to wake up to the seriousness of this situation,” Kohli said in the message recorded in Hindi. “Please let us all follow what’s been told to us and stand united, please. It’s been a plea to everyone. Stay at home and save your family from coronavirus”.
