There are very few shows that achieve the status of a global phenomenon. Money Heist is one of them. The heart of the show lies in the idea of resistance. How does a group of robbers become rebels? Therein lies the genius of El Profesor (Alvaro Morte). He is a socially awkward mastermind set on making a bold statement.
Those who still don’t know about Money Heist or La Casa de Papel, it is a Spanish heist Crime drama—created by Alex Pena, the show centers around a group of criminals who plan to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. They give themselves the names of different cities to keep anonymity. Tokyo, Rio, Oslo, Helsinki, Berlin, Nairobi, Denver, and Moscow set out to make history.
The series did not garner a lot of fans in Spain. After Netflix acquired the rights in late 2017, the show was catapulted to sudden recognition and fame. Netflix re-cut the series into 22 shorter episodes and released them worldwide. The streaming service released Part 1 in 2017, followed by the second part in 2018. Fans witness the group pull off the heist of the Royal Mint at the end of Part 2.
In 2019, the group reunited to save Rio. Rio is in the illegal custody of the Spanish Police, and Tokyo finds Profesor for help. This time Profesor will cross all limits to protect his own. Part 3 sees the additions of Lisbon and Stockholm, who we also knew as the strong-willed Inspector Raquel and Royal Mint’s Executive Monica, who falls in love with Denver.
The show’s success lies in its symbolism, the red suits, the masks of Salvador Dali, and the folk song Bella Ciao. All of these come together to strike a chord with the audience.
What to Expect from Season 5?
Part 4 released in April 2020 with eight episodes. Fans also get to watch an additional documentary on the journey of the cast and crew into becoming a worldwide sensation.
Part 4 ended with the Profesor in more trouble than he could have anticipated. One of the most valuable additions to the show is the shrewd detective Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri). She is hot on the pursuit of Profesor and finally reaches her destination.
Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Rio (Miguel Herrán) and Denver(Jamie Lorente) will be coming back alongside Stockholm (Esther Acebo) and Helsinki (Darko Perić). Lisbon (Itziar Ituño) will be inside with the Bank of Spain with the team in Season 5. Unfortunately, we will miss the brilliant Nairobi (Alba Flores) after her death in Part 4. Palermo (Rodrigo de la Serna), Bogota (Hovik Keuchkerian), and Arturo (Enrique Arce) will also reprise their respective roles. Pedro Alonso giving one of the strongest performances of all as Berlin, will continue to feature in flashbacks.
Fans can only guess which way the show will go with Profesor in immediate danger and the loss of their favorite Nairobi. Will the team fall apart or keep it together?
Netflix is yet to confirm season 5. However, in the wake of a pandemic and Itziar actually getting tested positive, fans will have to wait before the enigmatic group of robbers returns to our screens.
