The light novel series Chuunibyou or Love, Chunibyo, and Other Delusions is a well-acclaimed work written by Torako, with illustrations provided by Nozomi Ōsaka. The series even received an accolade at the Kyoto Animation Award competition in 2010. The success rate of the show has us wondering about a possible Chuunibyou Season 3.

The title of the show holds the profound meaning of the show and is self-explanatory. The term “Chuunibyou” in Japanese translates to “Eighth-grader syndrome”. The syndrome so mentioned deals with the delusional reality created by early teens as per which they believe themselves to be in possession of secret powers. This highlights their desperate desire to stand out and express their uniqueness in the world. What makes Chuunibyou a heartwarming experience is its relatable characters.

There has been no official statement regarding Season 3 of Chuunibyou. The creators of the series released a movie titled Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions! Take on Me in 2018. The arc followed by this movie seemed to have brought an end to the story as well. Presently, it seems very unlikely that there will be a Season 3 of Chuunibyou. Even if there are any chances of its renewal, we won’t see anything soon because of the ongoing pandemic.

Chuunibyou Storyline

Pertaining to the romantic comedy category, Chuunibyou lays bare the vulnerabilities of human beings. It focusses on how people develop certain coping mechanisms in order to function and protect themselves from hurting in life. The two protagonists of the story are few of those people who are suffering from “Chunibyo”. Their lives get entangled with each other as they try to come to terms with this syndrome.

Yūta Togashi used to call himself the “Dark Flame Master” during his junior high school days when he believed that he had superpowers. Embarrassed of his past delusions, he decides to start over upon reaching high school in the midst of new people. However, his fate brings him face to face with a girl named Rikka Takanashi. Suffering from the same syndrome, she starts taking interest in Yūta. The progressing story deals with their budding friendship, which reveals the reason for Rikka’s delusional self and how the two of them embark on a life-changing journey thereafter.
