‘Mindhunter’ shows the journey of FBI agents Holden Ford (played by Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (played by Holt McCallany) as they along with psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv) interview and try to understand the thinking and mindset of imprisoned serial killers and use such knowledge on their ongoing cases.
Season 1 takes place in the year 1977 to 1980 as they unleash a serial killer’s mind in those initial days of criminal psychology with the assistance of infamous serial killer Edmund Kemper whereas Season 2 is set against the backdrop of 1980-1981 as the FBI agents work towards the Atlanta murder case of 1979 which in turn is a true event of Wayne Williams (charged for the murder of two men and apparent yet unproved killing of around 28 children and youth).
Both the seasons received excellent response and reviews from critics. Metacritic rated Season 1 and Season 2 ’79 and 85 out of 100′ respectively. On Rotten Tomatoes, season 1 received 7.97 out of 10, and Season 2 received 8.43 out of 10.
However, regarding the much-awaited third season of the planned five seasons, it has been announced by Netflix in January 2020 as ‘on indefinite hold until Fincher finishes working on his upcoming film Mank and other projects and the contracts of the cast being released.’
A Netflix spokesperson stated, “He may revisit Mindhunter again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
