Shivraj Singh Chouhan was sworn in as chief minister of Madhya Pradesh on Monday at 9 pm. This happened after the resignation of Kamal Nath led Congress Government, which lasted only for 15 months.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Popularly Known as mamaji, sworn in as 42nd Chief Minister after the Kamal Nath government resigns on 20th March. The congress government falls short of a majority when 22 MLAs resigned, and one of its prominent leaders, Jyotiraditya Scindia, joined BJP.
The ceremony took place amid coronavirus lockdown. As a result, there were no invitations for party leaders and media. No other minister was sworn in the ceremony with him. No leaders traveled to Bhopal. However, Arun Singh (MP & general Secretary of BJP) and Vinay Sahasrabuddhe ( MP & Vice President ) participated through video conferencing. The ceremony was also attended by Kamal Nath.
During the 15-month long tenure of Kamal Nath-led state government, Chouhan remained active across the state. He was picked up by the BJP legislative party, which met on Monday in Bhopal. Shivraj folded his hands and sought blessings of all from a distance and look forward to meeting the expectations of the party seniors.
Chouhan has to tighten his belt now to deal with the current COVID-19 threat. Immediately after that, he needs to fill in 25 the vacant seats in the upcoming MP by-elections. The MLAs who left the congress are expected to be part of Shivraj’s cabinet.
