More than a handful of Netflix original series have been cancelled over the past few months due to the Coronavirus threat. Messiah Season 2 is one among those many shows.
Messiah is an American thriller series directed by Michael Petroni. The 10 episodes of Season 1 were released in January 2020 on Netflix. Names like Mehndi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Wil Traval and more can be seen donning their respective characters in the show which has a 7.6 rating on IMDb.

Messiah Season 2 Official Announcement
The second season has not been renewed by Netflix and any further development of the show has been cancelled. The sad news was broken out by the actor Wil Traval (played the role of Will Mathers) on his official Instagram account in March.

Why was Messiah Season 2 Cancelled?
Few reasons come straight to mind as to why this series was cancelled despite many fans looking forward to a season 2. Firstly, the show wasn’t at par with the status of many other Netflix series like “Stranger Things”. The viewership attracted by this enterprise was lower than the likes of the aforementioned series. Furthermore, the advent of the pandemic has also been one of the primary reasons of the cancellation of many projects, Messiah being one of them.
Another factor that cannot be left out is that the show has seemed to hurt religious sentiments of some communities. The Royal Film Commission of Jordan even stopped Netflix from releasing the show in their country due to this reason.
The exact reason for the same can’t be pinpointed since nothing of the sort was stated by the official sources. Considering the current state of affairs, either of the reasons mentioned could have been the cause for the annulment.
Messiah Season 2 Storyline
The show follows the case of a man in the Middle East, who shows out of nowhere and gradually builds up a following for himself after performing miracles. With his real identity unknown to anyone, his followers believe him to be the “Second Coming”. CIA officer, Eva Geller gets on to investigate more about him and his identity.
