Trouble for Nicki Minaj and her family
International rapper Nicki Minaj’s reputation may have taken a hit again. After openly supporting her husband despite a violent past, Nicki Minaj’s sibling has been convicted by a Court for predatory sexual assault and child endangerment. Nicki Minaj never supported her brother publicly. Court sentenced Jelani Maraj (Nicki Minaj’s brother) to 25 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.
How did he get here?
Jelani Maraj was first convicted for the predatory sexual assault back in November 2017. During the trial, the 11-year-old victim had testified in the court. In her testimony, she stated that she was repeatedly raped by Maraj when her mother was at work. Act used to happen four times a week and sometimes twice in a day, All this started back in 2015. The victim’s younger brother also testified and said that he witnessed the assault once.
Judge presiding over the case declared juror misconduct in October 2018 after it was discovered that jurors handling the case might have been biased towards Minaj’s brother. The Convict appealed against this decision in the higher court, but Nassau Supreme Court Judge Robert McDonald refused to overturn the verdict. Meraj was sentenced for life-imprisonment by a New York Court.
Prosecutors relied on DNA samples of Maraj found on pajama bottoms of the victim to prove their case.
In a desperate attempt to save himself, Maraj said that he had an alcohol problem and asked for a “second chance.” To further strengthen his defense, his attorney’s added that the convict suffered from health issues, including hypertension, gout, and anemia, and requested that his sentence be reduced from 25 years to a minimum of 10 years. The judge was not impressed with this defense and sentenced him to a term of 25 years.
