Social media users fell prey to yet another rumor recently. The Jackie Brown star, Pam Grier, was said to be battling stage 4 cancer! The 70-year-old actress shut all the rumors confirming that she is “as healthy as ever.”
Though back in 1988, Grier was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer and was given only 18 months to live. The fighter that she is, she managed to battle against it and survived. Cancer has been at bay ever since.
She is all set to return to the 3rd season of Bless This Mess. Grier made her mark in the industry in the 1970s when she starred in movies like The Big Doll House and The Big Bird Cage. Her role as the lead character in Quentin Tarantino’s blaxploitation homage Jackie Brown gave her a grand recognition and was a milestone in her career.
She also appeared in a few great movies like Bad Grandmas and Poms. Her work also includes series like The L Word, Smallville, and the tearjerking drama, and This Is Us.
Grier’s current project Bless This Mess premiered in April 2019 on ABC, where she played Constance, a local sheriff who also has her own store, Connie’s.
It turns out, Grier had no acting experience when she came to Los Angeles and had not planned to be a movie star initially. For the strong leading lady roles that she plays, she calls her mother and her aunt, the inspiration. Grier calls her mother “a black pioneer woman.”
Her strong career that is over 50 years long and inspired and captivated many. She is one of the most famous sex symbols of her generation in spite of being a sexual assault victim herself. Fighting against the assaults in the movie has helped her overcome her past. “It’s been therapy,” she said.
