Mehdi Dehbi & Michelle Monaghan are Coming in Messiah Season 2 or Is it Cancelled?? Things we know so far

Netflix doesn’t usually come out with such melancholy, but they have this time as they announced the end of their original series ‘Messiah’ last week. That is very mourning news for the fans of the controversial yet intriguing series. The series dropped it’s first (and probably the last) season on 1 January 2020.

The series is about an alluring person, ‘Al-Masih,’ played by Mehdi Dehbi, whose followers believe is a man who can do miracles and is a “divine entity.” CIA officer Eva Geller played by the elegant Michelle Monaghan, is appointed to probe into this man’s case. She is assigned to find out whether Al-Masih is who he is or just a formidable con artist.

Messiah Season 1

The season 1 ends with Al-Masih actually raising the dead in a plane crash, confirming once and for all that he did indeed have supernatural powers. The series was about what it would be like if Jesus came back a second time.

The thriller series received mixed reviews after its release. It was created by Michael Petroni and produced by Mark Burnett and Roma Downey of ‘The Bible.’ Messiah explored the boundaries between religion, belief, and politics.

Messiah Season 2 Cancelled or Coming

The controversial scene in the series involving shooting on Jerusalem’s sacred Temple Mount raised eyebrows in the Middle East.  The Royal Jordanian Film Commission told Netflix two days before the Messiah’s debut that there has been worldwide demand that the drama not be screened in the predominantly Muslim countries. This request was declined, but now the RFC can rest easy, knowing that there will no longer be Messiah Season 2.

Other reasons

One of the other reasons Netflix decided to stop the series is that it was shot in many different countries. Given the coronavirus pandemic, this is seen as a logistical as well as a health risking challenge.

Series co-star Wil Traval revealed the cancelation news on Instagram with a picture of himself, Michelle Monaghan, and John Ortiz.

“It’s a very sad day today,” he wrote. “I have just received news from Netflix that there will be no season 2 of #messiah I wanted to say to all the fans thank you for your support and love. I wish things were different.”

Fans are quite upset by the news that Messiah won’t see Messiah Season 2, and why wouldn’t they be. It would have been fascinating to see how the events developed in the second season. But Netflix will absolutely make-up for this and soon will come out with something else that will amaze the audience.
