Severe 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Russia’s Kuril Islands; No Death And Injury Reported!!!

In the current scenario of the world Russia the second-lowest country in the world where 306 positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed. In this pandemic situation, today’s Russia faces a 7.5 magnitude earthquake. The 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s Kuril Islands, according to the US Geological Survey( USGS). The quake hit at a depth of 56.7  km, nearly 1,400 km north-east of the Sapporo, Japan added the USGS.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially warned hazardously waves were possible in parts at the Kurils. Still, later they said based on further analysis that waves of less than 30 centimeters above the tide level were possible in the northern pacific.  The center said in its advisory about risks to the coasts of Hawaii, Japan, Russia, and the Pacific Island of midway, etc.

Japan Meteorological Agency said that

” The quake was a strong 7.8 magnitude and may cause a slight change of sea levels around the Japanese Coast.”

According to the US Geological Survey data

The quack struck at 2:49 a.m. UTC on Wednesday(10:49 p.m. ET Tuesday) at a depth of  around 37 miles

The Russian News Agency RIA Novosti reported that:

“Residents in some areas of the Kamchatka Peninsula- located just north of the Kuril Islands chain felt the quake. However, at present, there have been no reports of any damage to casualties.”

Accordingly to a report, the last major earthquake to hit the Kuril Islands region occurred in 2006. This quake – which measured a magnitude of 8.3, generated a small tsunami that affected the northern Japanese coast, as well as parts of California.
