One of the iconic films released in the 1990s was the Mortal Kombat, an American martial fantasy action. The movie is based on the video game series of the same name. Fans appreciated the first movie, but the franchise took a hit with the release of the second installment Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Now, Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced a reboot of the franchise. Despite the fans wanting a live adaptation of their favorite video-game series, the movies always have disappointed in one way or another. This is the reason why fans have a lot of expectations from the new movie reboot.

Simon McQuoid will be directing the film with his feature directorial debut. Written by Oren Uziel and Greg Russo, the movie’s production took place at Adelaide Studios. Filming also took place in parts of South Australia.

The movie will feature Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Mechad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, and Elissa Cadwell as Nitara. Ludi Lin will be playing as the magnificent Liu Kang along with Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero. Hiroyuki Sanada will star as the iconic Scorpion while Jessica McNamee will take the role of the fan-favorite Sonya Blade. Other actors joining the cast will be chin Han, Max Huang, and Josh Lawson. Lewis Tan and Matilda Kimber will also appear. Their roles have not been disclosed.

What to Expect with the Mortal Kombat Reboot?

The filming of the movie took place from September to December 2019. Consequently, the release date for the movie has been set for January 2021. Other than the casting updates and a promise of an R rating, fans do not have much information on what route the franchise will take in the reboot.

On 8th April 2020, Russo tweeted to his fans that “I want to see a [Mortal Kombat] movie that looks as badass as the cutscenes from the modern game.” Hopefully, this time fans will get what they expect. The first trailer will launch in Summer 2020.
