After more than three decades, fans will once again Lt Pete Maverick Mitchell perform death-defying stunts.
Superbowl brought with it the new trailer of fast-paced, high octane action film Top Gun: Maverick. Top Gun: Maverik is not a reboot, not a prequel but a sequel. Like the original movie sequel will contain scenes of fighter planes performing aerial stunts, bar brawls, and high-speed vehicles.
What was Top Gun about?
The first installment came out in 1986 and performed well at the box office despite getting mixed reviews. The movie follows daredevil fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise), who, along with his best friend Goose (Anthony Edwards), is sent to Top Gun an elite Naval Fighter Weapons School at Naval Station Miramar.
At Top Gun, Maverick attracts the attention of his instructors for his reckless but extraordinary flying skills. Things take a turn when during a training exercise, Maverick’s best friend and Wingman Goose is killed due to Maverick’s reckless flying. Although official inquiry absolves Maverick of any liability for the death of Goose, Maverick feels guilty.
What do we know about Top Gun 2?
The trailer reveals that maverick is now an instructor at Top Gun, and apart from pulling aerial stunts, he will fight his guilt of Goose’s Death. This time it will be more difficult as he has to train Goose’s son Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), who has no faith in his instructor and hold him responsible for his father’s death.
Apart from Tom Cruise, Iceman (Val Kilmer) Maverick’s old rival will also be back. Jennifer Conley will be the new love interest of Maverick. Maverick’s former love interest Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis), will not return.
New cast member includes Monica Barbaro, Danny Ramirez, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Lewis Pullman, Kara Wang, Jack Schumacher, Chelsea Harris, Manny Jacinto, to name a few.
Ode to fighter Pilots?
Most of the aerial stunts shown in the trailer are shot using a camera and not recreated using special effects. The movie may be an ode to the skill of fighter pilots, which is slowly fading away due to the era of drone warfare.
