Bad Boys 4 is in the works and we definitely know this. Sony Pictures officially confirmed that the fourth installment of the series is in the works. They did this a day before ‘Bad Boys For Life’ released in theatres. This was in January. Since then a lot has happened in the world. As a result, fans are wondering what will happen to the movie franchise. If you are one of these fans of Bad Boys 4, read on to know what to expect and when to expect it. Here’s everything we know about the fourth installment in this classic movie franchise.
Bad Boys 4: Recap Of The Franchise
The Bad Boys franchise has been around for a long time. So, you’ll find short recaps of information about the movies below.
Bad Boys – The first movie was released on April 7, 1995. It was directed by Michael Bay. We are introduced to Mike Lowery and Marcus Burnett. The storyline is that they have 72 hours to find $100 million worth of heroin. They have to do it so that internal affairs doesn’t shut them down.
Bad Boys II – The second movie was released on July 18, 2003. This was also directed by Michael Bay. In this movie Marcus and Mike head up a task force. They are investigating the movement of ecstasy in Miami.
Bad Boys For Life – The third movie was released on January 17, 2020. The movie was delayed for a long time because there were a lot of changes. The crew kept changing. In 2008, Michael Bay had said he might direct the movie. However, that didn’t happen. The obstacle was the cost. Michael Bay and Will Smith cost a lot of money. The production kept being pushed back over the years. Finally, in 2018 Martin Lawrence revealed on Instagram that the franchise is returning. The third movie is directed by Adil && Bilall.
The Storyline
‘Bad Boys For Life’, the third movie left a clue for the potential storyline of the fourth movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, be warned that there are spoilers ahead. So, the ending of the movie reveals that Armando, the son of Isabel Aretas. She is the widow of cartel kingpin Benito. She is also Mike’s son. This is revealed in one of the final scenes of the movie. Mike refuses to retaliate while Armando is beating him up. In the end, Mike and Marcus are placed in charge of AMMO (Advanced Miami Metro Operations).
We also see Mike visit Armando in prison. Mike offers him a chance at redemption and he takes it. What viewers can expect is a story revolving around Armando and MIke. Armando will most likely help AMMO in its operations. The movie may also take a shot at building up and emphasizing the father-son relationship. Marcus will of course still be there and talking about retiring again. That’s just what he does. However, this is all just speculation for now. We will have to wait for word about the actual storyline from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
The Cast and Crew
The Hollywood Reporter exclusively confirmed that Chris Bremner “has been tapped to pen the script”. So, we know that for sure.
Apart from that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will definitely reprise their roles as Mike and Marcus. After all, Bad Boys is nothing without them. If the story will revolve around the father-son relationship, we can expect to see Armando. As a result, we will see Jacob Scipio reprise his role from the third film. As Rita became the police captain, we will definitely see Paola Núñez as well. There have to be interactions between the police and AMMO.
For the rest of the cast and crew, we will just have to wait. Will the fourth franchise face similar problems to the third one? Viewers will have to wait and see.
When Will Bad Boys 4 Release?
Looking back at the recap of the franchise, we know that the Bad Boys movies take a while to release. The first movie came out in 1995, the second in 2003, and the third in 2020. So, that was 8 years between the first and second movies. Then there was a whopping 17 years between the second and third movies. The studio did confirm a writer so there might be an announcement in 2021 or 2022. So, it’s safe to say we shouldn’t expect a release date any time soon for Bad Boys 4. However, when we do know something, you will be the first to know.
