Itaewon Class Season 2 Release Date, Plot Synopsis & Other Major Updates

Several K-dramas that came out this year dealt with a raging reception from the audience. Chances are that if you still somehow haven’t been dragged into watching them, you might have at least heard the name of the show Itaewon Class. It’s quite similar to how even those people who aren’t much into Korean movies or dramas have still heard Park Seo-Joon’s name. And it all falls into place, especially since he is leading this drama. The show aired its final episode in March 2020, but the characters so introduced are still stuck in our heads. It would be an understatement to say that they are greatly missed and we want to see them again in a possible Itaewon Class Season 2.

Despite everything, a lot of the viewers who haven’t watched Season 1 yet, are still skeptical about giving it a try. So, we’ll try our best to demystify the tag of it being an “overrated” watch.

Itaewon Class Season 2 Release Date, Plot Synopsis & Other Major Updates

Itaewon Class Season 2 Announcement & Release Date

Unfortunately, Showbox, the company behind the distribution of the series hasn’t said anything on the matter. As of now, we don’t have any kind of official announcement regarding the renewal of the show. If we look into the ending of Season 1 to pick up any hints for the next season, then there isn’t much to say either. All the characters ranging from the protagonists to the supporting ones got their happy endings eventually. The show concluded all of its arcs and subplots satisfactorily by granting each of the characters a well-rounded story. To be honest, the story has ended well with the final episode. Reviving the show from here on can be a tricky task. However, if any changes are brought forth we will surely notify you.

Does the show deserve all the hype?

The information that escapes a lot of people about the show is that it is actually based on a webtoon by Gwang Jin. Delving deeper into the show, we realize that it is in fact not your average revenge/underdog story, as has been believed by many due to the misleading trajectory of the first two episodes.

The story moves beyond that cliched notion in the subsequent episodes and explores multiple social issues that need our attention. Social hierarchy, gender and identity politics, familial dysfunctionality and toxicity, betrayal at the hands of our loved ones are some of the overarching themes that are discussed throughout its narrative.

Itaewon Class Season 2 Release Date, Plot Synopsis & Other Major Updates

Furthermore, we are introduced to a female protagonist that is not so much a “damsel in distress”, an otherwise common feature in K-dramas. The character played by Kim Da-mi knows how to take a stand for herself and is also willing to punch misogynists if the situation demands it. But there are some problematic aspects to this character as well and we’re not going to ignore them at any cost. Her character grows towards the end but the ruckus created by her initially can’t be left out and it reminds us that people like her are among us and the wrongs said by them are barely questioned.

The show puts forth a strong plot with a wide range of diverse portrayal. The platter served is rich and colorful, you will not be disappointed. We urge you to put aside your negative preconceived biases and watch the show already. The Itaewon squad may feature a starry cast, but the realistic characters so portrayed and their distinct personalities hit home.

Itaewon Class Storyline

Park Sae-ro-yi’s life takes a wild turn at a young age after his father’s death. Moving on from the grief is hard as it is, but on top of that his status as an ex-convict makes it even harder for him to climb the social ladder. Finally, he puts his well-articulated plan into action and opens a bar-restaurant named “DanBam” in Itaewon. The staff members gathered by him have been equally hit hard by their realities. They decide to move together in their journey to attain success in the midst of a highly competitive society led by the CEO of Jangga Group who also happens to be Sae-ro-yi’s old nemesis.

The show is a package of surprises. The cast, the story, the characters, the music, everything is top-notch. Its soundtrack features glorious names from the K-pop industry as well and adds depth to the profound emotional quotient of the show. The OST includes cathartic tracks like: “You Make Me Back” by Woosung (South Korean band: The Rose), “Start Over” by Gaho, “No Words” by Crush, “With Us” by Verivery, and finally “Sweet Night” by V from BTS
