Accel World or Akuseru Wārudo is a Japanese anime series based on the light novel series of the same name written by Reki Kawahara (also the author of Sword Art Online). The series has had only one season till now consisting of 24 episodes, plus 2 OVA episodes. Since the novel series is still ongoing, it raises the question as to when the Accel World Season 2 will be broadcasted. Season 1 that aired in 2012 adapted volumes 1-4 and 10. Accel World Storyline
Let’s recap the story of Season 1 before Accel World Season 2 releases. As a means to escape his bullies in the real world, Haruyuki “Haru” Arita seeks solace in the virtual world through his Neuro Linker. Logging onto his school’s Local Network cyberspace, he puts his skills as a video gamer at the display, hence becoming an intriguing subject to the school’s popular female Student Council Vice-President Kuroyukihime.
The developing friendship between the two leads Haruyuki to a majestic secret program that bends the concept of time, called Brain Bust. It is an Augmented Reality Massively Multiplayer Online (ARMMO) Fighting Game, and engaging in battles in the game helps one score Burst points. These points help enhance one’s abilities in the real world.
Playing this game turns out to be revolutionary for Haruyuki as it helps him find friendship and a purpose. However, the biggest mystery as to why the game was created and by whom is yet to be revealed.
