USA Network has confirmed the American crime drama “Queen of the South” for a fifth season. Here’s what we know about it so far.
Alice Braga will return as the amazing ‘Queen of the South’ Teresa Mendoza for season 5. The show does not have a release date yet, but judging by its schedule, it might air in June this year. Like its previous installments, the season is expected to have a 13-episode storyline. The show premiered on USA Network in 2016. Subsequently, seasons two, three, and four were released in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Alongside Alicia Braga, the show stars strong female characters played by Veronica Falcon as Dona Camila Vargas and Justina Machado as Brenda Parra. Idalia Valles stars as Isabella Vargas, Camila’s daughter. Jon-Michael Ecker stars as Raymundo “El Guero” Davila, Teresa’s love interest, and a drug dealer.
Created by M.A Fortin and Joshua John Miller, the show is based on the Spanish series La Reina del Sur by Arturo Perez-Reverte.

Other stars expected to return are Hemky Madera as Pote Galvez and Nick Sagar as the DEA agent Alonzo Loya. Peter Galidot will also return as Mendoza’s right-hand man James Valdez. Co-showrunner Ben Lobato also revealed that James would play a bigger role in the fifth season.
The showrunners have not divulged many details of what to expect, but they have said that there will be Russians and the DEA involved. On August 29th, a 16-second trailer was released. It teases with the captions, “THE QUEEN WILL RETURN. NO RISK. NO REWARD” and ends with Mendoza saying, “You know what I am capable of.”
With a teaser like that, fans will not be able to contain their excitement for its release.
