Code Geass Season 3: The Recap

Code Geass Season 3 Confirmed? Everything You Need To Know & More

An adaptation of the manga ‘Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch’, the show follows the story of Lelouch Lamperouge. In the year 2010, in an alternate universe, the global superpower ‘Britannia’ has conquered Japan with its mecha army and renamed it Area 11. Lelouch is a prince of Britannia who is hiding out in Area 11 for one simple purpose; he wants to kill his father. When he meets the peculiar immortal girl; Geass, he obtains a superpower. The power allows him to give any person only one command which they will obey regardless of what it is. With that power in hand, he begins his quest. You can watch the series right now on. Both seasons are available on Netflix

What The Writers Say About Code Geass Season 3

Director Goro Taniguchi and writer Ichiro Okouchi have not shown any interest in the idea of season 3 becoming a reality. The writer put emphasis on the fact that he wanted to end Lelouch’s story after the second season of Code Geass. The movies were made since the creators wanted to explore new avenues along with a different storyline from the series.

Code Geass Season 3 The Movies

Long after the end of season 2 in 2008, 4 movies were made in the time period from 2017 to 2019. They were:

  • Initiation (Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu I Koudou )
  • Transgression (Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu Ⅱ Handō)
  • Glorification (Kōdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurūshu III – Oudou)
  • Resurrection (Kōdo Giasu: Fukkatsu no Rurūshu)

The first 3 movies were recaps while the last one wasn’t. The movies have their own separate timelines. Even though they were remarkably similar to the series, there were some key differences such as Shirley never discovering that Lelouch is Zero. This, along with a few more differences such as better character development and a streamlined plot make the movies a must-watch if you’re a fan.

Code Geass Season 3 Release Date

The movie was pretty much the end for the series along with the lack of interest from Director Goro Taniguchi and writer Ichiro Okouchi in creating a third season. As a result, we do not expect Code Geass to be renewed for a third season. However,  the writer had mentioned that the movies were not the end but a beginning. Even though it is an end for the series, we might see a spin-off or another movie in the future.
