[Major Update] Games of Thrones Prequel: Will Emilia Clarke & Kit Harington Return? Release Date, Cast & What to Expect

The president of HBO programming, Casey Bloys, has announced a prequel to the famous GoT where the story of house Targaryen will be told. House of Targaryen is what it will be called.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen and take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones. Martin and Ryan Condal will serve as co-creators. Condal is currently adapting the graphic novel Analog as a feature for Lionsgate.

Miguel Sapochnik and Condal will be showrunners, and the pair will also serve as executive producers along with Martin and Vince Gerardis. Sapochnik, whose directing credits include six of GoT episodes, won Emmy and DGA honors for “Battle of bastards”.

He was nominated for another Emmy in 2019 for directing “The long night” and won the Emmy for Best Drama Series as an executive producer for the final season.

Games of thrones Prequel Will Hit The Screens Soon!

The prequel is about to make its debut in 2022, Casey said in an interview with TCA. “My guess is sometime in 2022,” he said about when the series will premiere, stressing that it is too early to be more specific than that. “They have started writing,” he added, referring to George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal.

Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, it will tell the tales of the fertile dragon land of the Targaryen and the ancestors of Daenerys. “It is a big, complicated show”, Casey said, which leads us to believe that there is no information on the casting yet. House of Targaryen was one of the four remaining Game of Thrones spinoffs in the works at HBO. The others are on hold, which could be indefinite — or temporary.
