Almost six months ago, Maleficent: The Evil Mistress was released. It is the sequel to the fantasy blockbuster movie, Maleficent. Maleficent was released on May 2, 2014, and was a major hit. It made a box office collection of $758.5 million, which was the fourth-highest collection of a movie for the year 2014. It even won the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Movie. After the success of 2 movies, Disney is preparing for Maleficent 3.
The movie was inspired by Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (film) and the French classic, La Belle au Bois dormant, written by Charles Perrault.
The story of Maleficent revolves around a powerful, yet kind-hearted fairy, Maleficent, who is betrayed by the love of her life, Stefan. So, in order to seek vengeance, he places a curse on his daughter, Aurora.
Maleficent 3 Release Date
Although the makers of Maleficent have yet not confirmed a third installment of the movie, the chances of Maleficent 3 are high; after all, both the movies were huge hits.
Keeping in mind the fact that there was a gap of 5 years between the first and second Maleficent movie, there are chances that Disney will take its time and will release the movie somewhere around 2024. But if Disney decides to release it a little early, it could be during 2022.
Maleficent 1 was directed by Robert Stromberg and Maleficent: The Evil Mistress was directed by Joachim Ronning. So, the chances that a new third director will Direct Maleficent 3 are high.
“I love this universe. I love this kind of movie. So we’ll just have to wait and see. It all depends on how this goes,” said Ronning when asked about his direction plans for part 3.

Angelina Jolie Returning for Maleficent 3?
Well, since Maleficent 3 is yet not confirmed, it is hard to tell which actors will be a part of it. But the chances of Angelina Jolie being a part of the movie, and will reprise her majestic role of Maleficent.
There cannot be a Maleficent movie without Angelina Jolie, right?
