The winds of winter are the sixth part of the epic fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, written by the American author George R. R. Martin. It is more popularly known amongst the public as the novel series on which the famous television series Game of Thrones was based.
The first part of the series was started in 1991 and was finally published in 1996. In an interview, Martin accepted the fact that he foresaw the series to be a trilogy when he started it, but due to its detailed and long storyline, he has already succeeded in writing five out of seven envisioned parts.
The last part, A Dream of Spring, will also be seen somewhere in the future. After its first part in 1996, its following parts were realized in 1998, 2000, 2005 and 2011 respectively.
Winds of Winter Storyline
The story is based on two fictional continents, Westeros and Essos. In the novels, there are three sub-stories that intervene each other from time to time: the overthrown king’s exiled daughter, Daenerys Targaryen’s wish to gain ownership of the iron throne, the increasing threat in northern Westeros by the supernatural Others and a war between different families over the control of Westeros which has been going on since a long time.
Each chapter has a different point of view, which has increased from 3 to 31 characters during the journey from first to the fifth part.
Martin has been in isolation for a long time to complete the winds of winter. The last we knew, it was supposed to be published by the end of July 2020.
However, the 72- year old author recently in his blog gacei the permission to imprison him in case the copies of his sixth book are not available to the audience by the time he arrives at New Zealand for the Worldcon.
This statement may have been a joke on Martin’s part, but looking at the growing exciting level of the public, we won’t be surprised if they end up taking his joke seriously!
