Uncharted, the movie based on an action-adventure game of the same name, is set to be released in December 2020 by Sony. The film is said to be a prequel to the game series and will be starring Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake with Mark Wahlberg, reportedly, to play Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan.
The film was announced in 2008 and has ever since been in production. Recently the film lost its sixth director Travis Knight December 2019, due to scheduling conflicts, after David o. Russell, Seth Gordon, Neil burger, Dan Trachtenberg, and Shawn Levy.
“Venom” director, “Ruben Fleischer, is said to take over the role of director for the film, although the deal hasn’t been placed yet.
The film and its production crew have gone over various changes in the past decade. In 2009, The film was set to be written by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly. But in 2010, it was announced that David O. Russel would take over as the director and writer for the film but soon dropped out of the film a year later with Neil Burger stepping for the task.
Although Burger also left the production to write for a different team and the Columbia pictures had to approach the husband and wife duo of Gorman and Marianne Wi9bberly to rewrite the film screenplay.
In February 2014, Seth Gordon revealed that he was going to direct the film with the latest script by David Guggenheim. But due to unexplained complications, the deadline for the release of the film in June 2016 couldn’t be met.
Currently, the latest version o the screenplay is written by Art Marcum, Matt Halloway, and Rafe Judkins.
A fan-made short film was released in July 2018, directed by Allan Ungar, starring Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake following his twitter campaign that he started in 2011 for being cast in the film.
Sony has profited a lot from the Uncharted game series, which sold more than 41 million as of December 2017.
