After the Successful Reboot, Fruits Basket Season 3 is set to return next year.
Fruits Basket Season 3 Storyline
The premise of the anime is a young optimistic girl named Tohru Honda who has to live with her classmate Yuki Shoma, Shigure Shoma, and Kyo Shoma. There she learns a secret of the Shoma family, that each member of the Shoma family is possessed by an animal of a Chinese Zodiac System. Each member also has a deeper secret. Yuki is a rat, Shigure is a dog while Kyo is a cat.
Other members of the Shoma Family are Kagura (the boar), Hatori (a dragon, but in truth a sea-horse and also the family doctor), Momiji (the rabbit), Hatsuharu (The Ox), Ayame (The Snake), Kisa (The Tiger), Ritsu (The Monkey), Hiro (The Sheep), and also Akito, who acts as the antagonist, with no zodiac possession, acts like a god.
At the zenith of Season 1, Kyo’s foster father Kazuma shows up. It is revealed that only Tohru can make Kyo accept himself for who he truly is. It is also shown that he has a monstrous side. Kazuma believes that Tohru’s positive influence can have an effect on Kyo.
In Season 2, a mysterious character named Kureno Sohma appears as one of the older members of the family. At the end of Season 2, it has been revealed that Kureno has actually broken the curse of the Sohma Family and he has no idea how and also it reveals that the God Akito is a female, and he is one of the few members who know about it.
Season 3 of Fruits Basket would likely deal with the question of how Kureno broke the curse, which in turn would help others, and also the control of Akito would likely be explored
The Official Announcement
Funimation has officially announced that Season 3 would be coming in 2021. It would also adapt the Furuba ending, which might be familiar to the fans who have read the manga. The Official title of Season 3 is “Fruits Basket: The Final” implying that this is the final season and there would be no more new seasons after this one.
Eric Vale (Yuki Shoma), a voice actor of the American Dub version of Fruits basket, might have slipped the number of episodes. He said that the anime would have a total of 63 episodes, with already 50 episodes aired, by simple math, we can say that the 3rd Season would have 13 episodes. But this statement should be taken with a grain of salt, as plans keep on changing and sometimes actors slip something only as “red herring”.
We are expecting all the cast members to remain the same. Manaka Iwami as Tohru Honda, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuki Shoma, and Yuma Uchida as Kyo Shoma. The new addition in Season 2, Yuichiro Umehara as Kureno Shoma and Mayaa Sakamoto as Akito Shoma should have big roles in Season 3 as well.
On another side, Atsumi Tanezaki as Arisa Uotani, Kazuyuki Okitsu as Hatori Shoma, Makoto Furukawa as Hatsuharu Shoma, and many others should also be coming back as well.
Fruits Basket Season 3 Release Date
As of writing, there has been no announcement of any release date or time period when season 3 to come around. So we would have to rely on our speculation and analytical skills to figure it out. In the previous two seasons, both of them released on 6th April. Was it by design or coincidence, is it hard to tell? But the smart thing to do is to put the money on that date or somewhere around the date.
But due to COVID-19 issues, we might also see a slight delay, where the show could be released around the month of May and June.
But until we have a definitive Fruits Basket Season 3 release date you can check out more news about No Game No Life Season 2 & More
