Netflix has turned down the Marvel comic-based series “Marvel: The Punisher.” The Punisher was created by Marvel Television along with ABC Studios and Bohemian Risk Products, in 2011.
Netflix is no longer any mood to continue the Marvel series, which is a spin-off of the “Marvel’s Daredevil.” In the past, Netflix had canceled the Daredevil Season 4. But after Charliex Cox’s cameo in Spiderman No Way Home as Peter Parker’s lawyer, Matt Murdock, the same character that he plays in Daredevil, Disney has confirmed Daredevil Season 4. Although there are no update on when is Daredevil Season 4 returning, fans are still happy as Disney is acknowledging Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in the main MCU.
It seems like Marvel shows do not bring fortunes to Netflix. Along with The Punisher, Jessica Jones (another Marvel series on Netflix) is also canceled by Netflix.
After series being dropped from Netflix, Marvel responded by saying, ‘On behalf of everyone at Marvel Television, we couldn’t be more proud or more grateful to our audience.’ There is no clear reason for Netflix’s major step.
What is ‘The Punisher’ series?
A spin-off of the Daredevils, The Punisher’s season 1 launched in Nov 2017, and Season 2 launched in Jan 2018.
A television pilot for Fox in 2011 started the development, but it halted for 5 years. Its production started in 2016. Steve Lightfoot is the current showrunner.
Frank Castle, a marine veteran, is the main character of ‘The Punisher’, who is always up to use any lethal methods to fight and eliminate crime. Upon the killing of his family (Wife & Children), he becomes a vigilante and takes revenge from the ones responsible. He soon discovers the conspiracies and darks sides of New York’s Underworld, which has destroyed not only his but many other families.
What will happen to Season 1 & Season 2??
Although Netflix has turned down ‘The Punisher’ from its shoulders, it’s previous Seasons 1 & 2 will be available on the streamer.
Will there be a Season 3?
Netflix’s turning down the series doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be a season 3. There will be a season 3, but there are no details out yet.
Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is owned by Disney, and it is likely that Disney+ will be the new platform for the series. There is no piece of information about the dates as of today.
Also, it is likely that the cast and plot may be entirely different in Season 3. FYI, John Bernthal played the role of Frank Castle / Punisher.
