Red Dead is a PC game series that took the world by storm when it was first released in 2004. The game in focus today is Red Dead Redemption – 2, the third installment in the Red Dead game series. Rockstar Games released the game on October 26, 2019, for Playstation 4 and Xbox One and on November 5, 2019, for Microsoft Windows. The game is an action-adventure and it follows the game series in being a Western-themed game.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the 2010 game Red Dead Redemption. The game is based in 1899 in a fictionalized set-up of the American West. It follows an outlawed gang-member, Arthur Morgan. Morgan is a member of the Van der Linde Gang and must deal with the decline of the American West. He must do so while trying to survive government forces, rival gangs, and other things.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Expectations
The newest game’s setting spans five fictitious US states: New Hanover, Ambarino and Lemoyne (new introductions in this series), New Austin and West Elizabeth (from Red Dead Redemption).
The player takes on the role of Arthur Morgan, in what PC Games describes as a “full-on cowboy simulator.” The gamer’s objective is to fulfill the missions that are assigned to Arthur and they may also in help looking after the camps in between the missions. This includes hunting, running errands, and donating your spoils for rewards. The gamer also has stats that they must improve as they progress in order to be able to get upgrades.
The character’s behavior during the missions is also accountable for a certain score in what is known as the Honor system. Basically, this means that if your behavior was deplorable, there will be consequences and if it was gentlemanly and kind, there might even be rewards.

The game has fared very well with both critics and fans. Critics gave the game “universal acclaim”, according to Metacritic. Alongside GTA 5, it is the highest-rated game on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It is the fifth-highest rated game overall. The Guardian’s Keza MacDonald described the game as “a landmark game” and “a new high water-mark for lifelike video game worlds”. While the New York Times’ Peter Suderman thought of as an example of video games as works of art. He even went so far as to compare the game’s ability to “[tell] individual stories against the backdrop of national and cultural identity, deconstructing their genres while advancing the form” to the current state of film and television.
The game was nominated for and won various accolades, including several “Game of Year” awards. On Metacritic, it was the highest-rated game of 2018.
