This show brings the slice-of-life genre to us with a dark palette. WataMote is short for “Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dō Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!”, which can be translated to “No Matter How I Look at It, It’s You Guys’ Fault I’m Not Popular!” in Japanese. It is based on the manga series of the same name penned by two authors under the alias Nico Tanigawa.

WataMote Season 2 Release Date
The first season of the series ran from 8 July to 23 September in 2013. After that, an OVA special was released in 2014 to support the sales of the 7th volume of the manga. A spin-off was also produced with the title “TomoMote” or “How I Look at It, It’s You Guys’ Fault My Friend’s Not Popular”. However, the creators have been pretty quiet about the WataMote series, which makes us wonder if it has been brought to its end with the first season. Nothing can be assumed as of now. The Storyline
Through this series, we can get an insight into the trajectory followed by 15-year-old Tomoko Kuroki to make friends in high school. Having spent a considerable amount of time playing “otome games”, she believes that she can implement the lessons learnt through these games in her real-life to befriend people. However, the games have impacted her conversely and turned her into a recluse. The following events depict how she struggles to make her way through high school.
